What is personal training exactly?
Most people do not have a clear idea of what personal training really is. It is more than simply helping a person exercise. Our health is precious. When we are in top physical (and mental) condition, life blooms. Every day becomes a gift. But the key to achieving this life is to not wait until it is too late. Start now. Choosing to live a healthy lifestyle today will reduce medical issues and expenses later down the road.
As a trainer, my job is to motivate, hold people accountable, develop exercise routines, monitor those routines, counsel clients in nutrtion, help clients set goals, follow up on achieving those goals, sometimes be a listener, sometimes be an enforcer, and the list goes on.
The honest answer to the question above is...it depends. Each person is unique, and their needs, wants, and goals are no different. My job is to adapt to every person's individual needs.
Who needs personal training?
People hire personal trainers for all sorts of reasons. Many people have elicited the expertise of a trainer at one point in their lives.
Have you ever started an exercise program only to take a few days off after two or three months then never get back on track? This is very common. Some hire trainers to prevent this from happening. It's all about accountability.
Are you getting the results you desire? There is a lot of science behind structuring programs based on the needs of the client. Unfortunately, many take a workout from a magazine and expect to look like the man or woman in the pictures. Others have a good routine, but never change things up enough for the body to respond. Personal trainers take out all of the guess work.
Are you just starting out and don't know where to start? It's okay. Everyone has been there at one point. The most important thing is that you take that first step. Plus, you need a plan. Remember, if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.
What is the difference between semi-private and private training?
Private training is also referred to as "one-on-one" sessions. You can get a lot out of this type of training in the form of results and knowledge.
Semi-private training is also known as group training. This form of training is my personal favorite. First of all, it is definitely more economical. Since you are working with others (anywhere from 2-8 people), the cost is drastically reduced. Secondly, it has been shown that people often work better and harder in a group setting. They also simply have more fun. Plus, each exercise has different variables to either make it easier or harder. This allows people of varying abilities to workout in the same group. And you still get the same one-on-one attention as with private training.
What should you expect?
After starting a training regimen, most people notice a difference in their stress and energy levels right away. This is because when you train properly, you release various hormones that naturally exist in our bodies to counteract stress and increase energy. After a few weeks, you (and others around you) will begin to notice physical changes in your body. You will feel stronger, look healthier, and act more energetic. After a few months, you will be a changed person. It usually takes about six months to develop new patterns in your life. After this, you will never want to be without some type of exercise again.
